Oral Rehydration Salts

Facts and Uses

ORAL REHYDRATION SALTS -   a mixture of electrolytes (salts), and carbohydrates (in the form of sugar), which are to be dissolved in water and taken to replace salts and water that the body loses when you have dehydration caused by gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, or vomiting.  AYRTONS Oral Rehydration Salts is a WHO/UNICEF recommended low Osmalarity formula to treat dehydration and is available in original and Orange flavours.

NB:  Unacceptable alternatives include coffee and medicinal teas, which can have diuretic effects and carbonated beverages and sweetened juice, may worsen diarrhoea. Sports drinks should be avoided (especially in younger children) as these solutions contain too much sugar and not enough electrolytes.
